We have a proven track record of success, having obtained a number of multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements on behalf of our clients, including $11.4 million for the surviving family of a man who died as a result of injuries sustained during a cervical cord fusion surgery and over $5 million for a man who suffered exacerbated back injuries following a fusion surgery.
Spinal Cord Injuries
The spinal cord carries messages between the brain and the rest of the body. When the spinal cord is injured, paralysis can result. The severity of a spinal cord injury will depend on the location of the injury.
The higher the spinal injury, the more of the body will be affected. An injury to the middle or lower spine often affects the legs, but an injury to the upper spine can result in quadriplegia, paralyzing the arms and legs.
There are two types of spinal cord injuries: complete and incomplete spinal injuries. Complete spinal injuries involve a complete loss of sensation and movement (paralysis) below the site of the injury, whereas incomplete spinal injuries may still allow for some function below the site of the injury.
Spinal cord injuries can also result in a number of other medical conditions, including:
- Chronic pain
- Muscle spasms
- Sexual dysfunction
- Bladder infections
- Lung infections
- And bed sores

I can not speak highly enough for the experience I have received from Cogan & Power Attorneys at Law. I was introduced to John Power through a mural friend. I was impressed from the very first phone call with John Power to us meeting through the pandemic. His professionalism and his medical knowledge is unbelievable… I have to say from that day moving forward John Power, Sara Davis and Kim Stefanek all put me at ease. My cases lasted just about 3 years and I was notified every step of the way on what was going forward and keeping me in the loop. John and Sara made sure that I was ready and comfortable for my Deposition, they made sure every stone was unturned! Kim Stefanek is one of their paralegals and she is awesome. I can go and I highly recommend Cogan & Power for your legal issues. John Power & Sara Davis are amazing attorneys and exceptional, caring, compassionate people!!
